Contractors and distributors know the window of opportunity closes quickly on school jobs. Take Columbia County, Ga., where CI Electric had only 33 days to upgrade 19 older schools with voice and data connections after the board of education awarded CI the contract. With 753 drops, CI Electrical had to average more than 22 drops per day.
With the school buildings constructed of block and brick, surface mounted raceway was the obvious choice, said CI Electric's Marc Peel.
Because of the tight time frame, CI Electric installed prewired 4000 Series raceway from The Wiremold Co. “Prewired raceway cuts down on field fabrication,” said Peel. “We find it saves more than half the time compared to us having to order it piece by piece and ‘stick build’ it in the field.”
Close coordination among the distributor, Graybar Electric; CI Electric; and The Wiremold Co. made the fast-track installation possible.
The Graybar branch in Augusta, Ga., agreed to receive materials directly from The Wiremold Co., sort and stage them, and deliver on CI's schedule. Because all packaging of prewired raceway is marked with pertinent job site information — right down to the specific classroom wall — delivery is simplified.
