Alameda Electrical Distributors Inc. (AED), Alameda, Calif., celebrated its 50th Anniversary in grand fashion by hosting a gala dinner aboard the USS Hornet for more than 1,400 guests, including customers, manufacturers, reps, associates and past employees. The event was supported by some of Alameda's major manufacturing suppliers such as Square D, Hubbell Wiring, GE Lamps, Thomas & Betts, Appleton, Southwire and many more.

The Hornet is an aircraft carrier that saw action in World War II and during the Apollo 11 capsule recovery mission. The ship is now a National Historic Landmark, open to the public as a museum and as a venue to host events. Everyone who attended was treated to complimentary champagne and personalized dog tags as a souvenir of the evening.

The evening was filled with food, drinks and spectacular events. The dinner included food from around the world and a giant oyster bar, topped off by a lavish dessert bar and cigar bar. AED had music venues scattered throughout the ship. Upon their arrival, guests were treated to Andrews Sisters-like music provided by the Dangerous Divas; Ray Fernandez and Kings Hat serenaded the audience with cool jazz tunes to set the mood for the evening; then the Martini Straightup band performed music from the past 50 years, finishing with a rousing encore.

Attendees took guided tours of the aircraft carrier, where they got to see the flight deck, navigation bridge and lower deck, which included the engine room, mess hall and even the brig. In addition to guided tours, a flight simulator was on board for guests to enjoy.

Guests flocked to the onboard casino for blackjack, roulette, poker and craps. The night's big winner was Tai Huynh from John Morrison Inc., a customer of AED, who took home a 50-inch Panasonic plasma TV.
