Having determined that certain of its insulated tools may not meet the impact test as described in the appropriate ASTM standard, Klein Tools, Inc., Chicago, Ill., has begun notifying end-users and distributors of a recall and retrofit program.
The program covers only Klein insulted pliers, cable cutters and stripping/crimping tools manufactured between 1993 and March 1, 1998 with the part number suffix "INS." Klein products affected by this action bear a year and week manufacturing date code of "1998 W:10" or earlier.
Although Klein Tools is not aware of any injuries resulting from insulation failures of any of the insulated tools, it has instructed users to immediately stop using these tools and return them directly to Klein Tools.
While all Klein insulated tools must individually pass appropriate dielectric tests before shipment from the factory, additional product testing has indicated the possibility of insulation damage to the handle ends of some tools resulting from a substantial impact, such as being dropped onto a hard surface.
