Dream Jobs: Manhattan's Hudson Yards

Oct. 29, 2014
The site will include more than 17 million square feet of commercial and residential space, more than 100 shops, a collection of restaurants, approximately 5,000 residences and a 175-room luxury hotel, along with acres of public space. The development of Hudson Yards will create more than 23,000 construction jobs. 24 million people are expected to visit Hudson Yards every year.

Anyone who spent any time on Midtown Manhattan’s West Side along the Hudson River piers 25 years probably came away with a similar impression. Million-dollar views. A place with billions in potential but a nickel-and-dime reality.  But you didn’t go there unless you had to attend a trade show at the Javits Convention Center, were taking some out-of-towners on the Circle Line tour boat… or had to pick up your car from the city’s impoundment lot because it got towed there.

No longer. Today, there’s a wonderful ribbon of a running/biking/roller-blading along the Hudson River, the Chelsea Piers entertainment area, soccer fields and the controversial mega-development of Trump Place.

A development just breaking ground that will truly change the Big Apple’s skyline is the Hudson Yards projects, which is being promoted at www.hudsonyardsnewyork.com as “the largest private real estate development in the history of the United States and the largest development in New York City since Rockefeller Center.”

Says this website: “It is anticipated that more than 24 million people will visit Hudson Yards every year. The site will include more than 17 million square feet of commercial and residential space, more than 100 shops, a collection of restaurants, approximately 5,000 residences, a unique cultural space, 14 acres of public open space, a 750-seat public school and a 175-room luxury hotel—all offering unparalleled amenities for residents, employees and guests. The development of Hudson Yards will create more than 23,000 construction jobs.”
