Allen Electric Supply Co., Livonia, Mich., a full-service distributor of electrical supplies and equipment, serving contractors, original equipment manufacturers and industrial/commercial users in southeast Michigan, has been sold to Giles Prairie Partners, Inc., Chicago. The company will continue to be based in Livonia, and all of its employees will be retained. Bob Christian, president of Giles-Prairie, will be Allen Electric’s new president and CEO. Christian will be replacing Norman Horowitz, 65, who will be retiring concurrent with the purchase.

“I’m delighted to be taking up the leadership of this company,” said Christian. “Allen Electric is known as a leading full-service distributor of electrical supplies and equipment, and I look forward to working with the entire existing team to provide the same great solutions and service to our customers, and to growing our firm to serve the expanding Detroit and Great Lakes market.”

Founded in 1959 by Josef Horowitz, Allen Electric has been owned by Norman and Jerry Horowitz since 1989. Jerry Horowitz will remain as the V.P. of sales and marketing.

“I am happy to turn over Allen Electric to Bob Christian and a new era of leadership,” said Norman Horowitz.  “And I am grateful to the employees of Allen Electric with whom my brother and I built this firm. It makes me proud that all of our current employees are continuing with the company, so that they can continue to serve all of our wonderful customers.”

Pamela M. Belyn, a partner at Boodell & Domanskis, LLC, a Chicago law firm providing M&A and outsourced general counsel services to lower middle market companies, represented Giles-Prairie Partners in the transaction.
