Standard Electric Acquires Connecticut Electric

Standard Electric, Wilmington, Mass., has taken a significant step into the Connecticut market with its acquisition of Connecticut Electric Equipment

Standard Electric, Wilmington, Mass., has taken a significant step into the Connecticut market with its acquisition of Connecticut Electric Equipment Co. Inc.

With its headquarters in Meriden, Conn., Connecticut Electric also had locations in Guilford, Conn., and Waterbury, Conn.

“Combining these three new locations with our current branch in Putnam, Conn., will substantially enhance our ability to effectively service customers throughout the entire state of Connecticut,” said Dennis Miller, Standard Electric's president and chief executive officer.

All Connecticut Electric employees were retained, said Miller.

Founded in 1898, Connecticut Electric was one of the oldest electrical distributors in the United States.

Founded in 1952, Standard Electric, has continued to diversify and expand. In 2004, Standard Electric added three Massachusetts locations with the acquisition of Wellesley Electric as well as new store openings in Ayer and Rockland. Standard Electric now operates 19 locations throughout New England and was ranked No. 36 on EW's most recent “Top 200.”
