Leviton Manufacturing Co., Little Neck, N.Y., was ranked No. 1 in the most recent Patent Board Scorecard for the impact the company's patents have had

Leviton Manufacturing Co., Little Neck, N.Y., was ranked No. 1 in the most recent Patent Board Scorecard for the impact the company's patents have had on the industry. The Patent Board analyzes innovation, movement, and the business value of corporate patent assets, using four quantitative benchmarks to measure the relative strength of a company's patent portfolio. Leviton's composite score on the Patent Board's Scorecard for the fourth quarter of 2008 earned it an 8th place ranking in the industrial components and fixtures category — directly after 3M and Eaton Corp. and just before Panduit, Legrand Group and General Electric.

The Patent Board's Scorecard rates corporate innovation across 17 industries and combines a number of industry-standard metrics to arrive at measures of patent portfolio quality, technological strength and breadth of impact. The aggregate score received by a company determines its overall ranking.

“We are delighted that our patent portfolio was once again ranked so highly by the Patent Board,” said Donald J. Hendler, president and CEO of Leviton. “Given the high profile of the companies included on the Patent Board's Scorecard, it is edifying to be perceived as the front-runner in the area of industry impact. That our product designs and technology stand as the yardstick for other companies' leading technologies is much to the credit of our team of design engineers.”
