Summit Electric Supply celebrated the makeover of its La Porte, Texas, service center with an open house featuring a grand-prize drawing for a Yamaha Bruin 250 ATV.

When the lucky winner, Danny Liescheski of Lyondell Chemical Co., Houston, was asked if he had any use for an ATV, he replied, “You bet. I've got 400 acres of land.”

Liescheski was one of many winners of prizes at the February event, which marked the debut of the refurbished branch. The La Porte service center had been operating as a pick-up counter for orders generated at the Houston service center. In 2005, Summit decided to convert La Porte to a full-service branch with the full range of industrial electric equipment and supplies.

The conversion included an all-out merchandising blitz that resulted in a complete transformation of the facility. Associates at the branch rearranged and stocked fixtures to the brim, sorted and displayed products according to category, installed bold signage and a new communication center, and carefully organized the sales counter to mix workspace with product placement.

“We are very proud of the associates and all they have accomplished during the past six months,” said Victor Jury Jr., Summit president and CEO.

Headquartered in Albuquerque, N.M., Summit Electric Supply operates 18 service centers in four states, plus an export division based in Houston. The electrical distributor ranked No. 27 on Electrical Wholesaling's most recent Top 200 list.
