Few workers get paid for quitting, but employees at Minnesota Electric Supply Co., Willmar, Minn., can earn $250 to quit smoking.

“We are big into wellness,” said Connie Stahnke, who heads up Minnesota Electric's human resources department and spearheads the distributor's “No Smoking” campaign. To earn the $250 incentive, employees must quit smoking and remain smoke-free for one year. For those “quitters” with smoking spouses, the spouse can also earn $250. Add the money saved by not purchasing cigarettes, and a couple could accumulate some serious pocket change in a year.

“There have only been a handful of people who have made it,” said Stahnke. “But for those who do, it's wonderful.”
