Stuart C. Irby Co., Jackson, Miss., one of the nation's largest electrical distributors, has been awarded a multi-year contract by Entergy Corp. to provide utility materials and services to the northern region of the Entergy Network.

The network includes more than 1 million electric power customers in Arkansas and Mississippi. Stuart C. Irby will provide transmission and distribution materials, and purchase necessary utility supplies to serve Entergy's construction program. Stuart C. Irby has taken on additional product lines to support the contract, said Eddie Moak, vice president of Stuart C. Irby Co.'s Utility Division.

Moak said the multi-million dollar contract will result in additional jobs and expanded market share for the Jackson-based company.

“We have hired additional staff to support this project and they will be assigned to the Entergy Distribution Center in Little Rock, Ark.,” he said. Moak added that the Entergy contract was previously split among multiple suppliers, and that the new agreement should provide a significant gain in company market share.

“We have enjoyed a long-term relationship with Entergy over 40 years,” Moak said. “Our commitment to meet or exceed Entergy's expectations has never been greater. We see this contract as an opportunity to expand our service offering to Entergy and to support their supply chain goals and objectives.”

Entergy Corp. is an electric power production and retail distribution company delivering electricity to utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. The northern region of Entergy is comprised of Entergy Arkansas and Entergy Mississippi. Those companies had operated independently as Mississippi Power & Light and Arkansas Power & Light.

Stuart C. Irby operates 34 distribution centers in nine states. For more than 75 years, the company has served customers in the utility, commercial, industrial and residential sectors. Utility products account for about 45 percent of Stuart C. Irby's business.
