Van Meter Inc., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been selected as one of Iowa’s Top 100 Workplaces. Companies vying to be named top workplaces are judged based solely on employee feedback. Van Meter ranked eighth in the state among the top midsized companies.
The employee survey is conducted by WorkplaceDynamics, LLP, a research and consulting firm that concentrates on organizational health and employee engagement. What makes Van Meter a winning workplace? Van Meter’s press release pointed to the company’s purpose statement and philosophy: “to be their customers’ competitive advantage by creating a culture where the right people come to work, stay and achieve their potential.”
The company offers its employees unique benefits such as six weeks of fully paid parental leave for mothers and fathers, a month-long sabbatical for employees with 20 years or more tenure, and an extensive health and wellness program. This progressive culture and an employee-ownership program that empowers employees to go beyond the standard distribution model and create innovative services and solutions with the customers’ best interest at heart are key factors, the company said.
“The culture we have built and the people here at Van Meter are the reason we continue to be a Top 100 workplace in Iowa,” said Kevin Powell, president and CEO of Van Meter. “Earning this award for a third consecutive year serves as a reminder that we must find ways to keep our employees and future new hires engaged. We will continue to challenge ourselves to raise the bar.”
