Black Box makes two big buys

Black Box Corp., Pittsburgh, announced a merger with Sterling Technology Systems Inc. Sterling, Minneapolis, provides technical design, installation and maintenance services for premise cabling and related products to customers primarily in the greater Minneapolis area. Annual revenues of Sterling are about $11 million. Dale Lindquist, president and owner of Sterling Technology Systems, will assist in integrating Sterling with Black Box Network Services - Minnesota Operations, before retiring at the end of the year. The combined operations will be managed by James Carroll, president of Black Box Network Services.

Black Box has also announced another merger with Da/Com Limited, Stoughton, Mass. Da/Com provides technical design, installation and maintenance services for telecommunication, premise cabling and related products to customers primarily in the greater Boston area. Herbert D. Buchine, president and owner of Da/Com, said, "This merger allows us to capture the opportunities and fill the growing demand in the industry to deliver full connectivity expertise from under one roof." Buchine will serve as vice president for Black Box network services - New England operations. The transaction is being accounted for as a purchase, and the price has not been disclosed.
