Border States Electric Supply (Fargo, N.D.): Border States has introduced a new management team in Albuquerque, N.M. Freddie Young joined Border States as the Albuquerque branch manager in October, bringing 35 years of industry experience. Dave Bills has been appointed sales manager, and will lead the sales team in the New Mexico market. Bills is a 13-year Border States veteran with previous company experience as an account manager and branch manager. Additionally, Gail Quiggle has been named operations supervisor. Quiggle is a 30-year Border States veteran.
TRC (Technology Research Corp., Clearwater, Fla.): With more than 15 years sales and marketing experience, Craig Floyd has been appointed sales manager for RV and distribution products, allowing TRC to increase its focus on the construction and industrial markets being served by electrical distributors and manufacturers' reps. Floyd will be based in Elkhart, Ind.
Hughes Supply Inc. (Orlando, Fla.): Thomas Starnes has been appointed to lead Hughes Supply's maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) division. The appointment of Starnes to this newly created position comes after Hughes' announcement of its acquisition of Century Maintenance Supply Inc. Starnes joined Hughes in July of 2001. Since that time, he has served as senior vice president of sales and marketing. In his new role, Starnes will be responsible for the operations of the combined Hughes and Century MRO business, which is expected to have revenues approaching $500 million in the next fiscal year, as well as government and health-care customer programs.
ExcelLine, the lighting division of Genlyte Thomas Co. (Union, N.J.): Mark Carroll has joined the company as business unit manager for ExcelLine. His prior experience includes time with Cooper Industries, Thomas & Betts and General Signal Corp. Peter Lena has been promoted to manager of sales and customer service. With more than 18 years lighting industry experience, Lena has been with ExcelLine since 2000, previously as national sales manager for the ProLinear line of products.
International Electrotechnical Commission (Geneva, Switzerland): Frank Kitzantides, vice president of engineering for the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, has been elected vice president of the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC). The IEC is a global organization that publishes international standards for electrical, electronic and related technologies.
Holophane (Newark, Ohio): Randall Crothers has been promoted to vice president, sales. Since joining Holophane in 1971, Crothers has held various positions in engineering, marketing and sales. Most recently he served as vice president, infrastructure and commercial outdoor product group. In his current position, he will co-direct the Holophane factory sales force, working with Rob Drago, also vice president, sales.
North Coast Electric Co. (Bellevue, Wash.): Bill Oster has been promoted to Portland, Ore., service center manager. A 25-year North Coast veteran, Oster was most recently manager of the Eugene service center. Dan McCarthy, who joined the company in 1995, has been promoted to Eugene service center manager.
Electrical Wholesaling/EC&M (publications of PRIMEDIA Business Magazines & Media, Overland Park, Kan.): David Miller has been promoted to associate publisher of EC&M and Electrical Wholesaling magazines and all their ancillary print and online advertising properties. He has spent almost 20 years in sales, marketing and management positions for manufacturers of electrical equipment and supplies. Additionally, Diane Mason will increase her sales role for EC&M and Electrical Wholesaling. In addition to selling all the magazines' classified ads, directory listings and enhancements, Mason will assume responsibility for a number of Midwest display advertising accounts. She has sold classified ads for the magazines since 1993.
National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA, Rosslyn, Va.): Lloyd Trotter, president and CEO of GE Industrial Systems, was named chairman of NEMA's board of governors at its 77th annual meeting and leadership conference held Nov. 8-11 in Washington, D.C. Trotter succeeds outgoing Chairman Ralph Jackson, deputy chairman and former COO of Cooper Industries. Other officers elected at NEMA's annual meeting were Randy Carson, senior vice president, group executive, Eaton Corp., who will serve as vice chairman; Tim Powers, president and CEO, Hubbell Inc., who will also serve as vice chairman; and John Estey, president and CEO of S&C Electric, who will serve as treasurer. Newly appointed to NEMA's board of governors for three-year terms are Kent Hussey, president, Rayovac Corp.; and Arthur Miele, senior vice president of marketing, Phelps Dodge Corp., and president of Phelps Dodge Sales Co. Kirk Hachigian, COO, Cooper Industries; and John Seldorff, president and CEO, Legrand, North America, were appointed to fill two vacancies on the board. The rest of the board was reappointed. Those individuals are Richard Carmody, president and CEO, Bedford Materials Co. Inc.; Richard Couch, CEO, Hypertherm Inc.; Kenneth Honeycutt, president and CEO, Acuity Lighting; Gregory Kenny, president and CEO, General Cable; John Longenderfer, CEO, Lutron Electronics Co. Berk-Tek (New Holland, Pa.) Daniel Wilhoit has been appointed Southeast regional sales manager. Wilhoit has held a variety of sales positions with companies that include Premise Networks and AMP/Tyco Inc.
BICSI (Tampa, Fla.): Christine Klauck, of Siemon's corporate training team, has been elected U.S. Northeast region director of Building Industries Consultant Services International (BICSI). As Northeast region director, Klauck will represent the concerns of the BICSI membership in Maine; Massachusetts; Connecticut; Rhode Island; New Hampshire; Vermont; New York; New Jersey; Delaware; Maryland; Washington, D.C.; Pennsylvania; and West Virginia. Klauck has been an employee of Siemon since 1994. She joins three other Siemon employees as active participants in the BICSI organization: Paulo Marin, Brazilian region director; Miguel Aldama, recently elected district chair of BICSI Mexico; and Robert Faber, vice chair of the technical information and methods steering committee.
Genesis Cable Systems LLC (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.): Andy Pluister has been promoted to vice president of engineering after more than six years with the company. Additionally, Joe Nitiss was promoted to vice president marketing and business development. Nitiss joined Genesis in April 2002 and has held various marketing and sales roles with Emerson Electric Co.
Thomas & Betts Corp. (Memphis, Tenn.): Dominic Pileggi has been elected by the company's board of directors to succeed T. Kevin Dunnigan as chief executive officer, effective Jan. 16, 2004. Dunnigan will continue to serve as a non-employee chairman of the board until Dec. 31, 2004. Nearing 25 years with Thomas & Betts, Pileggi currently serves as president and chief operating officer.
ABB (Zurich, Switzerland): ABB's Dinesh Paliwal has taken on the additional role of president, ABB Inc. in the United States effective Jan. 1. He succeeds Donald Aiken, who will retire at the end of January as president of ABB Inc. and head of the group's automation activities in the United States. Paliwal is a member of the ABB Group executive committee and is the head of the Group's Automation Technologies business worldwide. He has more than two decades of experience in the process and utility industries.
Cooper Industries Ltd. (Houston): Curt Andersson has been appointed president of Cooper Industries' Cooper Crouse-Hinds division, headquartered in Syracuse, N.Y. Andersson succeeds Steven Sisney who recently was appointed group president of Cooper's $700 million global tools and hardware business segment. Andersson joins Cooper Crouse-Hinds from The Timken Co., Canton, Ohio, where he was senior vice president, industrial integration. In another Cooper personnel change, Dan Tamblyn has been appointed director, supply chain, at Cooper Wiring Devices (CWD), headquartered in Long Island City, N.Y. Formerly material manager at Cooper Industries, Bussmann Division, Juarez, Mexico, Tamblyn joined Cooper in 1987.
OBITUARY
Jim Ryall, former owner of Ryall Electric Supply, Denver, Colo., died Nov. 14 at the age of 75. Ryall Electric Supply was acquired by Rexel's Westburne in 2000. Jim Ryall is survived by his wife, Kris; six children; and nine grandchildren.
