GE says its efforts to juice up the company's profits with green R&D in its Ecomagination effort have paid off in markets as far-ranging as locomotives, wind turbines, aircraft and LEDs and that it will spend an additional $10 billion by 2015. The company said revenue from green products and services increased 6 percent to $18 billion in 2009.

One of GE's most heavily promoted green projects during the past year was the relighting of more than 1,000 Starbucks coffee shops with LEDs. According to GE's most recent Ecomagination report, GE developed a LED lighting system specifically for the Starbucks store design and that Starbucks plans to expand the program to international locations, aiming to complete installation in more than 8,000 company-owned stores around the world by the end of 2010.
