April 13, 2009
USA Solar Cable, which is being marketed as the first photovoltaic-rated cable for the solar energy industry, is now available from USA Wire & Cable.

USA Solar Cable, which is being marketed as the first photovoltaic-rated cable for the solar energy industry, is now available. This new cable will conform to UL’s Photovoltaic Technical brief and specification UL 4703 and is designed to withstand long-term exposure to extreme conditions. The overall jacket is lead-free, halogen-free, limited smoke, flame retardant and environmentally friendly. The company claims that unlike competitive products, in the case of fire USA Solar Cable will not emit harmful gasses, smoke, or hydrochloric acid when exposed to water.

“In the last six months, we’ve been working with our customers to define a cable that addresses the unique issues related to solar energy installations," said Hugh Robertson, the company’s vice president of sales. “We expect that this cable will not only be easier to install, and environmentally sound, but create greater long-term value for our projects through greater energy efficiencies and durability. Another cost saving benefit is that USA Solar Cable can be used with transformerless inverter systems and has lower SIC or energy loss." USA Wire & Cable
