In two separate expansion-minded moves, GE Supply expanded into Southeast Asia at the end of 2002; meanwhile, back in the United States, its GE Supply Logistics unit opened its new headquarters, sales and distribution center in Irving, Texas.
The GE Supply Logistics unit provides supply chain management solutions and inventory logistics management programs for “C” class commodity parts to the aerospace industry and commercial, and industrial OEM users. It employs nearly 400 people.
According to GE Supply Logistics President and General Manager Jason Jones, the Irving headquarters consolidates operations from Boca Raton, Fla., and Carrollton and Fort Worth, Texas. The 82,000-square-foot facility is located in Freeport Industrial Park adjacent to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
The new headquarters consolidates GE Supply Logistics' Business Leadership Team, Aerospace Distribution “Center of Excellence” (COE), and an industrial and commercial branch.
The Irving warehouse features 30-foot high racking with advanced product put-away and picking processes, helping to maintain inventory accuracy and expediting customer shipments. Its quality department has also been redesigned and expanded, enhancing the efficiency and precision of incoming material inspections and expediting customer shipment turnaround.
In another expansion move, GE Supply is significantly growing its Southeast Asia operations and targeting the Chinese market. In an agreement finalized in December in Singapore, GE Supply increased its stake in the Clayton Electric Co. to 80 percent. It has held a minority position in Clayton since 2000. The name of the company has been changed to GE Supply Asia, PTE Ltd.
Headquartered in Singapore, GE Supply Asia has opened sales offices in Beijing and Shanghai. The new business primarily serves engineer constructors and the oil and gas industry in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, China, Vietnam and South Korea. Sales for 2002 were in excess of $25 million (Singapore).
“Southeast Asia and China are among the world's most dynamic and rapidly expanding economies,” GE Supply President and CEO Bill Meddaugh said. “Our customer base there is growing at an equally rapid pace. With the advent of GE Supply Asia, we are making a dramatic commitment to that base and toward asserting our industry leadership in the region.”
According to Albert Tan, the new operating units' managing director, “We believe GE Supply Asia offers customers an unmatched inventory of NEMA and IEC standard products, engineering and application expertise and product support. We also provide the singular dedication to their success that characterizes GE Supply's customer service worldwide.”
