Colonial Electric Supply, King of Prussia, Pa., teamed up again in 2010 with the U.S. Marine Corp. for its annual Toys for Tots campaign. Each of the company's Colonial Electric Supply, Bright Light Design Center and Annapolis Lighting locations was registered as a toy drop-off center. The showrooms' customers even received 20 percent off their purchases when they brought in an unwrapped toy between Nov. 1 and Dec. 15.

In 2009, Colonial collected $10,000 worth of toys, and Marketing Manager Kimberly Paul says the donations were about the same in 2010, but Colonial took a little different approach to making the donation this time around. “In previous years we have collected toys from all of our locations and then combined the collection at our King of Prussia headquarters and made one big donation,” she said. “This year, we decided that the toys would be better utilized in the community they were collected in. So each one of our branches throughout Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey collected toys and then the local Toys for Tots agency in that area collected and distributed the toys to girls and boys in that local area.”

The branch managers said their bins were full and they were excited to have the Marines collect the donations. “It amazes me each year, especially during these tough times, how many customers take the time to bring in and donate a toy for this great cause,” said Colonial Electric Supply's Reading Branch Manager, John Sweeney. “It brings me joy to know that the holiday giving spirit is still alive!”
