2016 South Atlantic Region Forecast

Nov. 30, 2015
The region is bristling with economic drivers that should keep business humming for years to come, among them auto manufacturing and petrochemicals. Florida's Gulf Coast area is seeing construction boom along with perennial boom town Miami. Overall, the region's electrical sales should grow 2% in 2016, below national estimates but coming off a big number last year.
A large handful of metros in Florida, particularly along its Gulf Coast, will be some of fastest-growing  Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) in this region next year. In addition, Miami is building condos like crazy and Orlando is running strong according to many growth metrics. Perennial growth metros in this region like Raleigh and Charlotte are hitting on all cylinders again, and South Carolina is seeing major growth in its auto industry with a $500 million Volvo plant in Berkeley County and a new tire factory in Chester County. West Virginia has a $500 million Procter & Gamble plant underway in Clarksburg; a $616 million gas-fired power plant being planned in  Moundsville; and a multi-billion ethane cracker planned for  Belmont.
