MEP Jobs, Urbandale, Iowa, an online job board targeting trade workers and their employers in the mechanical, electrical and plumbing industries, has released results of a survey on salary levels among professionals in these industries. Highlights from the survey include:

  • Nationwide, the average salary for workers in the mechanical, electrical and plumbing sectors is $52,000. Here are the average salaries for several key positions:

    • Mechanical engineer ($72,000)
    • Plumbing project manager ($73,400)
    • Electrical construction superintendent ($66,560)
    • HVAC project manager ($65,750)
  • The top-paying metro area is Los Angeles, with the average worker earning $66,560.

  • Despite a decrease in the residential housing market, 60 percent of employers indicated that they plan to increase staffing levels during the coming year.

The survey, co-sponsored by Nexstar and Contracting Business magazine, represents the answers of over 2,000 participants throughout North America. The full salary survey is available for download at www.mepjobs.com/salary2008.
