In this month's Electrostats, you will notice some major changes in the New Construction Put-in-Place data provided by the U.S. Commerce Department.

The good news is much more monthly data is now available. The bad news is that the Commerce Department revised the construction classifications, and the data is not comparable to historical monthly data published previously.

Monthly construction data is now available on several dozen specific types of construction projects within the following categories: private (residential and non-residential), and public (federal, state and local). Links to historical data and other information on construction statistics are also available.

Because of space limitations, EW can't publish all of the new data. If you need more detailed data, check out this link: www.census.gov/const/www/c30index.html.
