The wireless Internet could soon emerge in hotel lounges and conference rooms.

Marriott International Inc. announced that it plans to install wireless high-speed Internet access at 400 hotels in the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany.

High-speed wireless service will be available in hotel lobbies, meeting rooms and public spaces and will complement the current in-room high-speed Internet access. The technology will allow conference participants to follow presentations over their own laptop screens or allow guests to check e-mail from another area in the hotel.

Wayport, a company specializing in bringing high-speed Internet to travelers, has also equipped 475 hotels with wired and Wi-Fi wireless systems.
