For the environmentally conscious consumer, new product packaging makes Sylvania compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) a good choice. Several of the Dulux EL line of screw-based CFLs will now come packaged in recyclable Smartpak boxes.

“By moving away from plastic packaging for our CFL products, we're able to reduce the nonbiodegradable waste going into our landfills, and encourage even wider usage of these energy-saving products,” said John George, Sylvania CFL product marketing manager.

Starting in May, customers will be able to purchase 13W, 19W and 23W CFL bulbs in the convenient cardboard Smartpak. Additionally, with a smaller packaging footprint, new packaging allows for more efficient grouping on shipping pallets, reducing the number of truckloads needed to transport the product and saving Sylvania approximately 6,980 gallons of diesel fuel a year.

Switching from typical incandescent bulbs to more energy-efficient CFLs is one of the easiest ways for consumers to reduce power plant emissions and save money on their electric bills. The CFL bulbs use about 75 percent less energy and last up to 10 times longer than a standard incandescent bulb.

Headquartered in Danvers, Mass., Osram Sylvania serves customers in more than 140 countries, manufacturing a wide range of lighting products, including automotive, electronic and magnetic ballasts; and precision materials and components for industrial and commercial users, original equipment manufacturers and consumers.
