Bob Jones and Associates, a manufacturers rep in Phoenix, ran a six-month promotion for its customers that ended in June when the firm gave away a custom motorcycle. The promotion started on Jan. 1 and ended June 26.

“We have been involved in hundreds of promos with various manufacturers and from time to time have even run some of our own, but this was much larger than anything we ever attempted before,” said Jones. “The prize was a custom motorcycle similar to the ones you see on television shows like Orange County Chopper, and created more interest than any promo we have ever been involved in. Typically, a prize of this size is given away in a national promotion and the winner has a chance like winning the lottery. Ours was a local promo including customers in Arizona and southern Nevada only, so our customers had a really good chance at winning. All entries were mailed to an accounting firm and they handled drawing the winning entry.”

The winning ticket belonged to Michael Hession, president of New Electric, a Phoenix electrical contractor. The motorcycle, the “Rockem Rocket,” built by Rockem Sockem Motorcycle Co., Mesa, Ariz., was presented to Hession at the Phoenix regional headquarters of HD Supply, where Hession entered the drawing.

Bob Jones and Associates' distributor partners were given one entry for each qualifying order they placed, and a second entry for their customer that uses the products they purchased. “Many of the distributors took the opportunity to create a promotion within the promotion and used the second contractor entry to create additional business for themselves, making a win-win for everyone involved,” Jones said.
