2016 Pacific Region Forecast

Construction activity is again booming on all fronts in the Pacific region. Vast array of projects includes billions of dollars in mass-transit. The San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont MSA has pulled 5,242 building permits YTD, a 75% increase over the same period last year. Overall growth in electrical equipment sales is forecast at 5.8%.

Construction cranes pierce the sky all over San Francisco and the growth of tech companies in Silicon Valley and throughout the Bay Area are supporting a healthy construction scene that’s cooled a little bit since last year but is still the envy of many other metros. Apple’s new headquarters is one of the biggest projects underway, but Google has a new campus on the drawing boards that could be the next showcase project in the country. Demand for condos and apartments in downtown San Francisco remains strong despite astronomical rent prices, and the San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont MSA has pulled 5,242 building permits YTD, a 75% increase over the same period last year.  Down the  coast, Los Angeles’ showcase project underway is the 72-story Wilshire Grand tower, which will be tallest building in the city. Seattle’s downtown has all sorts of projects underway and on the drawing boards and by many measures is one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation.
