Omni Cable Corp. West Chester, Pa., teamed up with United Electric, New Castle, Del., and Philadelphia-based Goldhorn Electrical Construction Co. to engineer and implement a solar project for its headquarters. The system's 442 solar panels will produce close to 144,000 kilowatt-hours during the first year translating to an estimated annual savings in electrical costs of $20,000. The solar power is anticipated to save Omni Cable approximately 25%-30% on their annual energy bill.

All panels were made in the United States by a local supplier, Motech Industries, Inc. of Newark, Del. In addition, the 95kw Inverter was manufactured by Solectria Renewables, Lawrence, Mass. The installation began in early June and was in full operation by Aug. 1.

“Omni Cable's investment in alternative energy will result in an eight-to-10-year payback,” said Michael Schafer, project manager, Omni Cable. “With the ever-increasing cost of fossil fuel generated electricity, we felt this was a tremendous green initiative for our company and our physical plant.”
