Graybar Electric Co., St. Louis, Mo., has acquired Splane Electric Supply Co. in its largest acquisition in recent history. The purchase of Splane Electric Supply, Belleville, Mich., with 70 employees and more than $30 million in annual sales, gives Graybar locations in Belleville, Livonia, Madison Heights and Shelby Township, Mich., all located in the Detroit metropolitan area. Graybar already has branches in Livonia and Auburn Hills, Mich.

The acquisition also gives Graybar a stronger presence to serve industrial customers in the Detroit metropolitan area.

Janice Kennedy, former CEO of Splane Electric, will remain with Graybar during the transition period. Splane Electric had been a family-owned business since 1953.

The Splane Electric Supply acquisition is one of the largest purchases in recent history by Graybar. Other big Graybar acquisitions preceding this acquisition include Frank A. Blesso, Inc., Hartford, Conn., last October and the acquisition of Ellis & Howard, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada in 1992.
