Griffith Holds Kick-Off Party for National MS Society

Employees of Griffith Electric Supply Co., Trenton, N.J., met in March to kick off their fundraising efforts for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The excitement surrounding the kick-off party spread to students at Dunn Middle School in Trenton through a special program run by the Children's Home Society of New Jersey called the New Jersey After 3 program. Students in the program worked to raise about $900 by gathering pledges for walking from the Dunn School to Griffith Electric's main location at 5 Second St. in Trenton. Upon their arrival, the kids were greeted by Griffith Electric's 98-year-old owner, Meta A. Griffith, who thanked them each personally for participating in the kick-off party and for showing pride in their community. Griffith, chairman of the board and owner of Griffith Electric Supply, along with Bill Goodwin, company president, and Griffith employee and MS fund raising team captain Heni Scharibone explained their connection to MS was through Bob Froehlich, V.P. of Advance Electric, a long-time customer of Griffith. Froehlich was diagnosed with MS in 2003 and soon after became involved in the MS Society's effort to raise funds for research to find a cure. He formed Team Bam to walk in the MS Walk and invited Scharibone to join his effort. She solicited help from co-workers, organizing fund raising and encouraging others to participate in the MS walk. Her efforts for this year's MS Walk in April brought in $4,011.50, placing her fourth among the top participant fundraisers and adding to Team Bam's total, which put them in second place with a total of $18,194.
