Horizon Solutions Plans CDC in Eastern N.Y.

Horizon Solutions, Holyoke, Mass., opened a central distribution center (CDC) in Guilderland, N.Y., to give industrial, commercial and contractor customers throughout the Northeast access to next-day delivery from its over $10 million in electrical and industrial products inventory. The facility opened in August.

The new location — with approximately 80,000 square feet of space — houses the main distribution center for Horizons' operations across the Northeast, as well as their eastern New York State branch offices and a new customer training facility.

In addition to the new distribution center, Horizon's 2010 Investment plan includes:

• Expansion of Horizon Lighting and Energy Services Group to meet customer demands for increased energy efficiency.

• Expansion of its sales offices in Utica, N.Y. and Boston.

• Technology investment: Upgrading logistics/warehousing technology at the new CDC to voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) phone systems.

• Safety solutions: Significantly expanded product and service capabilities to help customers understand and address safety issues.
