Federal contracts with an electrical twist continue to attract interest from all sorts of companies in the electrical construction industry. Most recently, Gexpro/Rexel, Shelton, Conn., and EMCOR Inc., Norwalk, Conn., announced that they had won contracts with the General Services Administration (GSA). In addition, there were plenty of new contract awards won by electrical contracting firms for electrical retrofits at military bases, federal hospitals, dams maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other government facilities.
Gexpro said its GSA Schedule Contract Award “opens the door” to sell products to every federal government agency and to participate in additional government quotes for items in the same product classification on the contract. The contract is for five years and is renewable for three more five-year intervals.
“This contract is not a simple formality, but took several months of our efforts in submitting the necessary information and documentation to meet the specific criteria for the government award,” said Chris Chickanosky, vice president, global sales. “We are pleased that Gexpro's product selection and value-added services will now be made directly available to federal agencies. And we look forward to providing the latest, most advanced electrical solutions that will help make their projects more efficient and productive.”
EMCOR Energy Services, Inc., a subsidiary of EMCOR, will also be doing more work with the GSA. GSA recently awarded the firm a nationwide blanket purchase agreement (BPA) to provide comprehensive energy services for the General Services Administration (GSA). EMCOR Energy Services was one of 19 organizations to be awarded a BPA by the GSA, one of the world's largest building managers.
Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the government earmarked funds to enable federal agencies to pursue green initiatives in compliance with the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA), Executive Order 13423, and the Federal Leadership in High Performance and Sustainable Buildings Memorandum of Understanding (2006). The GSA designed the Comprehensive Energy Services BPA to assist federal agencies in meeting the standards set forth in the various legislation, converting the government's facilities into high-performance green buildings.
“EMCOR Energy Services is very proud to have been chosen to help ‘green’ our nation's infrastructure,” said Art Strenkert, president, EMCOR Energy Services. “With an expert staff of LEED Accredited Professional engineers, we are well qualified to help build America's green future. We look forward to partnering with federal agencies.”
