Cooper Lighting Recalls Emergency and Exit Lights

Sept. 1, 2008

A product safety recall was voluntarily initiated by Cooper Lighting, Peachtree City, Ga., last month in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC). The company discovered that its “Sure-Lite” and “AtLite” exit and emergency lights can malfunction and not stay illuminated in the event of a power failure. This could result in a failure to provide adequate lighting to guide building occupants to an exit in an emergency.

About 9,000 of the lights have been sold since September 2007, and are installed primarily in commercial buildings such as hotels and office buildings. While no incidents or injuries have been reported, the company has chosen to recall the products and is providing free replacement products to end users.

For additional information, including a list of model numbers covered by the recall, contact Cooper Lighting at (800) 954-7228, or visit the firm's web sites at www.surelites-lighting.com or www.atlite-lighting.com.
