Cooper Industries, Houston, and some of its operating groups announced several agreements last month to expand their products' ability to interact with certain standards, both proprietary and open.
The company's Cooper Wiring Devices, Peachtree City, Ga., gained certification as an integration partner with Remote Technologies Inc. (RTI), Shakopee, Minn. This Integration program certifies that RTI home theater control products can be integrated with Cooper Wiring Devices' Aspire RF wireless lighting control devices using the Aspire RF Serial Interface Programming (SIP) Module. This provides a RS232 connection to RTI's remote control processors, and through the module, RTI dealers can easily control individual dimmers, switches, receptacles and lamp modules. Moreover, they have the ability to communicate and control scenes and areas managed by the system.
Cooper Wiring Devices also announced that it has been certified as a Complete Control Partner with Universal Remote Control (URC), which does custom design, engineering, manufacturing and distribution of controls and home automation products. The Complete Control Partner program certifies that URC custom automation solutions and Cooper's Aspire RF wireless lighting control devices can be seamlessly integrated and provide full-functionality using the Aspire RF SIP module. Like RTI, URC dealers will be able to control the Aspire RF devices using URC's MSC-400 system controller.
Finally, Cooper Industries has joined the Wireless Industrial Technology Konsortium (WiTECK) as a Promoter Member. Cooper is the ninth member of the group, and will hold seats on the WiTECK board of directors. WiTECK is an open, non-profit membership organization working to provide a reliable, cost effective, high-quality portfolio of core enabling system software for industrial wireless sensing applications, under a company- and platform-neutral umbrella. WiTECK was founded in 2008 by leading enterprises in the industrial instrumentation, wireless components and software development industries.
