Hal Grattan, a sales representative for L.H. Dottie Co., Commerce, Calif., recently spent time in the late-night spotlight. Grattan's 1972 Mustang convertible was featured on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” during a summer segment of the show.

In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the Mustang, the Ford Motor Co. created a summer concert series, which aired during the latter part of the popular late night program. Jay Leno, a serious car enthusiast and collector was the perfect host for such a series.

Grattan, a member of several car clubs, was originally contacted by the Beach Cities Mustang Club about his car being featured in the series. Grattan welcomed the opportunity with the same gusto he puts into his professional career. After a full day of detailing the car, his bright red beauty was ready for its network television premiere.

Grattan, who has owned the “muscle car” for eight years and often exhibits it in local car shows, said that both he and the car were given the celebrity treatment by The Tonight Show staff.

“All of Jay's staff were great,” said Grattan. “We hung out in the green room, and after the taping we had our pictures taken with Jay on the ‘Tonight Show’ set.”

The experience didn't go to Grattan's head, though. The next day, he was hard at work promoting Dottie products and providing the excellent customer service he has become known for over the years.
