Released last month, the 2002 Fortune 500 list includes four electrical distributors that will naturally also make Electrical Wholesaling's 250 Biggest next month. Graybar Electric, W.W. Grainger, Wesco International and Anixter International were among the companies on the Fortune 500 list. Hughes Supply fell a hair short of making the list with a ranking of 501.
Fortune said 2001 was a record low for the Fortune 500, crediting sluggish revenue growth and a 53 percent drop in profits. Last year was also a difficult year for many of the electrical distributors Electrical Wholesaling ranks as this industry's 250 Biggest. The listing, which will appear in next month's June issue, will see quite a bit of movement as distributors fall and rise in the rankings. Some distributors saw sales diminish from 2000 to 2001; others were happy to have had a flat year. A few did more than just weather the economic storm and grew their sales significantly.
