People are paramount. That's one of the messages you'll walk away with after reading the cover story, “Fast-Track Distributors.” As Electrical Wholesaling's editors visited with the CEOs and presidents of some of the fastest-growing electrical distributors, the simple truth became clear: quality employees are at the core of the fastest-growing distributors.

“This is very flattering,” said Craig Levering, president and CEO of Crawford Electric, Dallas, in an interview for the article. “But I've got to maintain it is certainly not me. It's the company and this team that we have put together.” Many echoed similar sentiments. They also voiced concern over keeping those good employees and finding new ones as their companies continue to grow.

Bill Elliott, president of Elliott Electric Supply, Nacogdoches, Texas, said that hiring people was the most difficult part in opening four new locations last year.

“I think holding on to our quality people is going to be a challenge in moving forward,” said Jim Dunn, vice president of sales, Warshauer Electric Supply Co., Tinton Falls, N.J. “There is not a day that goes by that I know (the competition's) people aren't talking to our people.”

The moral? Reward your employees. Let them know how much you appreciate the good work they do.
