Bechtel Announces New Manufacturing and Technology Business

April 12, 2022
Catherine Hunt Ryan was appointed president of the Manufacturing and Technology business. She was Bechtel's CFO, and serves on the company's board of directors.

Bechtel, Reston, VA, a global provider of engineering, construction, and project management services, formed a new Manufacturing and Technology business to address growing customer and market demands for engineering, procurement, and construction services in the semiconductor, electric vehicle, synthetic materials, and data center sectors.

"Bechtel is embracing the challenge of developing resilient supply chains for the world's most advanced technologies," said Brendan Bechtel, the company's chairman and CEO, in the press release. "The Manufacturing and Technology business will design, build, and integrate the complex components that make up these facilities and deliver solutions quickly to market."

On the web page for the new business unit, Bechtel said, “As the world works to lower its carbon footprint, how we manufacture goods is evolving - facilities are incorporating advanced technologies, optimizing supply chains, and requiring a certainty of outcome during the construction process. Additionally, growing concerns in global supply chain integrity are pushing many companies to move production to protect their value chains from future disruptions and address rising national security concerns. We work with manufacturing and technology customers to deliver innovative technologies that increase access and opportunity worldwide and reinforce the global supply chain to proactively pursue a net zero future together.

"Very few companies have the deep experience running comprehensive integrated EPC and the competency to scale resources to deliver accelerated design-build projects like Bechtel. The accelerating demand for re-shored manufacturing is placing tremendous pressure on contractor resources, and customers are increasingly interested in securing additional manufacturing capacity to help achieve their objectives and meet critical market demand.”
