The multibillion dollar expansion of the Port of Long Beach involves both expanded docks and a new intermodal rail hub Port of Long Beach

2015 Pacific Region Forecast

Nov. 24, 2014
Construction activity is booming on all fronts in the Pacific region. Vast array of projects includes billions of dollars in mass-transit. Office projects include the Amazon towers going up in downtown Seattle and San Francisco’s 61-story, 1.35 million-sq-ft Transbay Tower. Overall growth in electrical equipment sales is forecast at 5.0%.

The Los Angeles-Riverside region is booming, with big numbers in multi-family construction; a new mass transit project, the $834 million Regional Connector Transit Corridor light rail; $579 million in modernization and upgrades at the Port of Long Beach; warehousing expansion in Riverside County to store and distribute projects flowing through Long Beach from the Pacific Rim; the $508 million renovation of Terminal 1 at Los Angeles International Airport; and a $1.1 billion expansion on the University of Southern California’s campus.

But the San Francisco Bay Area/Silicon Valley is tops in the Golden State right now due in large part to a massive hiring surge among tech firms, extremely low office vacancy rates and a billion-dollar renovation of the Chevron refinery in Richmond, Calif. Seattle’s skyline will have a new look when Amazon completes  its new downtown office towers; Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is looking at a billion-dollar renovation; and Boeing recently broke ground on a new wing factory.
