WESCO Distribution, Inc., Pittsburgh, through its Canadian subsidiary, agreed to acquire LaPrairie, Inc. , Newmarket, Ontario, its third acquisition in the past year-and-a-half in Canada. Terms weren’t disclosed closing is expected to occur in January 2014, WESCO said in a release.

LaPrairie, a utility specialist that generates approximately $30 million in annual revenue from a single location in Newmarket, Ontario, serves the transmission, distribution, and substation needs of utilities and utility contractors across Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada. The addition of LaPrairie further expands WESCO's presence in Canada and strengthens its utility product and services portfolio, WESCO said.

“LaPrairie is a well-regarded distributor of electrical products with a strong technical sales force that has developed long-standing relationships with utility customers,” said Mr. John J. Engel, WESCO president, chairman and CEO.

WESCO bought EECOL Electric in Calgary in October 2012, and Trydor Industries in British Columbia in July 2012.
