American Battery Solutions (ABS), Lake Orion, MI, a manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries, is tripling the size of its Innovation Center, growing from 40,000 sq ft to 115,000 sq ft. It will be adding 75 jobs at the facility. ABS also operates a 120,000-sq-ft technical center in Michigan and a 170,000-sq-ft battery manufacturing facility in Ohio.
Facility expansion will include additional engineering test labs, a development lab and a prototype battery pack assembly line that will complement the existing module prototype line and space to house the growing employee base. In addition to the customer projects, the team is also developing a new line of standardized, high-voltage battery packs branded as the ProLiance Intelligent Battery Systems.
“ABS has seen continued growth despite the Covid-19 pandemic and needs to expand our Lake Orion facility and staff to support our growing customer base and line of renewable modular battery pack technologies,” said Subhash Dhar, the company’s chairman & CEO, in the press release. “This expansion reflects the success of our promise to pursue business opportunities in underserved and emerging market segments. Product features that include modularity and scalability with advanced management and control systems have proven very attractive to our industrial, commercial and heavy-duty vehicle customers."
ABS designs and manufactures modular battery solutions for transportation, industrial and commercial markets primarily in North America and Europe. ABS has helped launch battery programs for electric vehicles such as the General Motors EV1 and Chevrolet Volt, and has also worked with Fiat Chrysler, BMW, Daimler-Mercedes, Rivian and Karma.
