Nevada is grabbing most of the construction headlines this year in the Mountain Region, with the news that Tesla would be building its $5 billion gigafactory outside of Reno, Nev., and the Las Vegas Review-Journal report that more than $8 billion worth of projects are in Sin City’s construction pipeline, both on the Las Vegas Strip and in the suburbs. One big project coming to the Strip is a $375 million arena that will seat 20,000 people; another big project in Nevada is a $1 billion solar power facility First Solar is building in the Mojave Desert.
Phoenix enjoyed some massive population growth from 2012-2013, with over 71,000 new residents moving to the Valley of the Sun, and the metro ranks as one of the most active residential markets with over 8,000 single-family permits and 6,000-plus multi-family building permits through August.
